Overview

The objective of the Russian Technology Investment Forum™ is to present top pre-revenue, early and expansion-stage companies for investment to international investors. Russian entrepreneurs present their business plans and fund raising objectives of US$250,000-US$10,000,000 to international venture capitalists, strategic investors, service providers and investment bankers.

The Forum is organized as a venture capital contest where the best of the best technology enterprises compete to participate. The Forum provides two levels of expertise and value-added to a progressively diminishing group of companies. First, IVI screens candidate companies. This short-listed group attends the Venture Capital Workshop, a two-day preparatory academy to elevate their business plans and fund-raising objectives to international standards; graduation from the Workshop ensures that entrepreneurs fully understand investors’ needs, and the process to raise capital. A second short-listing of companies is conducted at the Workshop’s conclusion with this third and final group of companies presenting themselves to investors.

Our 1st Forum

IVI conducted the 1st Russian Technology Investment Forum in 2001, with a technology sector focus on ICTs (information and communication technologies). One hundred & ten professionals attended with leading ICT venture capitalists from the USA, Europe, Israel and India traveling to Russia for the 1st time as company founders and entrepreneurs from Russia’s thirty-two best ICT enterprises presented themselves and their fund raising objectives to investors.

This was the 1st such program organized to bring international venture capitalists en masse to Moscow, and the 1st time that Russian ICT enterprise managers presented themselves, their financials and capital needs transparently, with English as the working language of the event.

IVI implemented this program to identify the supply of ICT enterprises and determine international demand for Russian technology.

Four SMEs that participated in the event raised capital and/or established new strategic partnerships:

  1. Parallel Graphics (Moscow) raised US$3 million from Mint Capital.
  2. Epsylon Technologies (Moscow) established a strategic partnership with Stins Comm.
  3. Policom (Moscow) raised debt & equity financing to launch its telecommunications ‘last mile’ solution.
  4. Spirit Corp. (Moscow) established a strategic partnership with Texas Instruments (TI), an OEM with 50% of worldwide market of DSP microprocessors. Spirit telephony software is directly burned into TI's ‘C54’ processors with Spirit’s name branded on the processor itself, a real accomplishment since identification of a supplier on an OEM's chip is rare.
